As THE Alaskan outfitter, Big Ray’s wanted to add some essential expedition equipment to their brand. The result was Base Camp Coffee. Plaid developed packaging that harkened back to the canvas sidewall tents historically used by hunters, miners and other Alaskan adventurers. The resulting brew is a mission critical pick-me-up for every outing.
Big Ray’s & Alaska Historic Timeline
To commemorate the 70th anniversary of Big Ray’s outfitting Alaskans for all conditions Plaid was commissioned to create a unique way to display the history of the company. In addition to showcasing historic milestones of Big Ray’s the timeline features major events that happened in Alaska those same 70 years. To do this we proposed using a weathered wood structure as a nod to the territorial days of Alaska, as well as to the surplus sales that the company was founded upon. Vintage images were printed onto ash panels and then assembled in each Big Ray’s store – either as a flat wall display or as a column as space permitted. Mounted to the wood are historic images with offset captions on clear acrylic. The end result was a mixture of old and new that told the story well. CIRI 2005 Calendar
In 2005 CIRI’s theme for their 2005 annual shareholder calendar was traditional containers. We selected and shot 12 containers – from a Haida dancing headdress to an Athabascan salmon skin utility bag and set them in an over-sized one page format.
Big Ray’s Brand Update Spot – All Alaskan
This spot was created to support a brand overhaul – namely changing all five Alaskan locations – Army Navy in Anchorage, Big Ray’s in Fairbanks and Mack’s Sport Shop in Kodiak – to one name: Big Ray’s. Another key goal of this spot was to reinforce the history of the Big Ray’s brand and it’s direct connection to Alaska – past and present.
